Punakha can be your next destination after Thimpu, the city was capital of Bhutan Kingdom. You must get a new permit from Thimpu to visit Punakha, this permit can’t be obtained from Phuntsholing. Take a journey break at Dochula Pass – one of the most attractions for Bhutan tour after crossing around 30 km from Thimpu through dense pine forest. Dochula Pass located at 10,000 ft. from sea level, offers 360 degree panoramic view of Himalayan Mountains. Then visit Dochula monastery and obviously 108 Chortens. Punakha located only 40 km away from Dochula pass.

          At Punakha first visit Punakha Dzong – a must visit tourist spot, located at confluence of two rivers. The Dzong is one of the scenic, constructed around 400 years ago and remain open from 9.00 A.M from 5.00 P.M. Your next destination would be Punakha Suspension Bridge, a must see attraction at Punakha. The bridge built on Fo Chu (river), its offers great view of river bank and surrounding. Then visit Royal Botanical garden, Namgyal Chorten, Chimi L’khang temple etc.

Best Season to Visit Punakha

Entire Bhutan can be visited throughout the year except monsoon, but best season for Bhutan tour is March to May and another best season is September to November. In winter Bhutan experience enough chill weather.
