Keylong – small and beautiful town and headquarter of Lahul district in Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. Distance from Manali 115 K.M through Rohtang-Pass, and distance from Kaza is 187 K.M, situated on 3,300 meter above sea level. Lahul region famous for rough and cool desert, Keylong seems like an oasis into desert surrounded by willow and poplar trees.

          Amazing view of ‘Lady of Keylong’ is visible from town. Take a short trip to Khardang Gompa (11,300 ft. above sea level), distance only 6 K.M from town across the Bhaga River. Another attraction is Shashur Gompa Monastery situated on 3 K.M away from Keylong town surrounded by far trees, this was founded in 17th century. Again go another 3 K.M forward to Tayul villge and 6 K.M from Keylong. Tayul Gompa or Tayul monastery located in this village, a giant statue of Guru Padmasamvaba located here.

          Now time to go outside of town, visit Jispa and Darcha village, distance only 20 kms north from Keylong to Jispa through Leh-Manali highway along with Bhaga River. Visit Jispa helipad, Jispa monastery, and folk museum at Jispa, drive another 7 kms north for Darcha.

Accommodation in Keylong

Nordaling Guest House: This is more of a homestay, bed and breakfast kind of a place in Keylong, located close to the bus stop, upper Keylong. Rooms are comfortable and cozy, built within green fields of vegetables and fruits. Breathtaking views of Himalaya will be on the backdrop of this homestay. Food is good in taste and hygienic also gives quick services with garden fresh veggies.

Nalwa Guest House: Rooms of this homestay are comfortable with all basic interior and hot water facility to beat the cold. Tariff ranges between Rs.300 to Rs.500 for double bedded room with or without attached bath. You can enjoy view from the windows are decent. Food provides with tea, coffee for very nominal price, must taste the soup/curd made by mashed tomato and onions in it.



How to Reach Keylong

Nearest airport is Kullu (KUU) or Bhuntar airport, only Air India plays flights from Delhi to Kullu.

          Nearest railway station is Chandigarh (CDG), number of direct trains are available from Delhi, Mumbai. From Chandigarh take HRTC buses to Keylong, shared jeeps and exclusive cars are also available.

          Keylong also can be reached from Delhi, take overnight bus from Delhi to Manali (distance about 400 kms), or from Delhi to Kullu (distance about 507 kms). Then take bus of car from Manali, Kullu to Keylong.

Best Season to Visit Keylong

Summer season (end of May to October) is best tome to visit Keylong, rest of the time this area became detached from rest of the world due to heavy snowfall.
