Dawaipani (দাবাইপানি) is small Himalayan village in North Bengal under fascinating Darjeeling district. The village situated in opposite hill of Darjeeling town that is the famous for Tiger Hill. Dawaipani is located just 15 km away from Darjeeling town, nearest junction is Jor-bungalow, just 7 km away from this beautiful destination. The place where one can take the breath on the lap of nature, village consists of only 135 – 150 houses. This village is a paradise for bird lovers, bird watching is one of the best activity in Dawaipani.

          There are several famous tea gardens around Dawaipani - such as Glenburn, Lamahatta, Takda Tea Gardens. You can easily visit to anyone. You can see the tea being extracted or processed directly from the garden. You can taste fresh tea from the garden. The city of Darjeeling is just a stone's throw away. You can go there for a day trip and come back after sightseeing, shopping and eating. More well-known places can be reached from here, such as Lamahatta, Sitong or Kalimpong.

          This tiny hamlet offers you a spectacular view of Mt. Kanchenjunga (Sleeping Buddha), and clear view of Namchi, West Sikkim (Chardham or Samdruptse), and hazy view of the Darjeeling town. Entire Darjeeling town looks like stars in galaxy at night.

          Dawaipani meaning in local language is ‘Medicated water’, the name derived from local river (Khola) which passes through the village. This village is surrounded by few renowned tea estates like Glenburn Tea estate, Lamahatta Tea estate, Takdah Tea estate and lush green pine trees.

This small village is still virgin destination in tourism map, only nature lover and bird watcher visiting this place, so this is not well commercialized. Only few huts and village houses are there, local people has started their room as homestay.

Every rooms have total two beds, one is king size double bed and another one is single bed. How to Reach Dawaipani

Nearest airport is Bagdogra (IXB) and railway station is New Jalpaiguri (NJP), well connected with Kolkata and other major cities of India. Direct car/taxis are available from airport, NJP and Siliguri to Dawaipani through NH 10. Total distance is around 70 kms from Siliguri and it will take around 2-3 hrs. to reach. From tin mile take the right turn, which will go straight down, very steeply winding and binding its way through the dense pine forest. You also can reach Dawaipani from Darjeeling via Ghoom. 

Best Season to Visit Dawaipani

Dawaipani is cold all year round. However, it rains heavily during the monsoon. This is recommended not to visit during monsoon. You can visit Dawaipani village at any other time of the year. However, do not forget to take enough warm clothes.
