Chimeni or Chimney (চিমনি গ্রাম) is a picturesque village near Darjeeling, the name of the village derived from 100 years old chimney, which was built by British at time of WWI (World Word I). The chimney is 24 ft. in height and most point of attraction among travelers.

          About 11 kms of uphill drive from Kurseong will take you to the sleepy hamlet – Chimeni. The village is heaven for true nature lovers, which is nestled into the clouds. Great views of rolling tea gardens and Rivers Teesta and Mahananda can be seen from here. A short walk to the Chimney from homestay will give you a breathtaking experience, if trekking is your hobby then you can reach Bagora from Chimney, only 8 km trek.

          On a day visit you can roam around Chatakpur – a pretty Himalayan village with great views of the Himalayas, Dowhill Deer Park, Forest Museum and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Museum. Also you can cover few most Renowned Tea Estates of eastern India like Castleton Tea Estate, Monteviot Tea Estate, Singel Tea Estate and Makaibari Tea Estate.

The house is a double storied property with four cozy rooms on the first floor for the guests. All rooms are double bedded, simple and comfortable. It has wooden floors and wooden ceilings which are fully carpeted, to give u warmth in the cool and dry weather around here. There are two common western styled bathrooms, which are not attached to the rooms but offer hot and cold water facilities.

How to Reach Chimney Kurseong

Nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri (NJP) located around 45 km, nearest airport is Bagdogra (IXB) located around 40 km through Matigara. Direct car/taxis are available from Siliguri, NJP and airport. Shared transport also available from Siliguri and it will cost around Rs.100 – Rs.150 up to Kurseong, then take another car to the village Chimney. An exclusive car will cost around Rs.2000 – Rs.3000 depending on season and car type. Your homestay owner can arrange for pick-up and drop to and from Kurseong, Siliguri on early booking.
