The last village of West
Sikkim district is Uttarey or Uttarey (উত্তরে), a small and quiet village surrounded by high
mountains, situated on 7600ft. above sea level. A trekking route goes to
Sandakphu via Chia Bhanjyang, Phuktedara, Singalila top and Phalut.
Chiyabhanjan is situated on Ino-Nepal border and a small gateway to Nepal for
locals. Anyone can enter to west Bengal after crossing Singalila Top. Uttarey
is base camp for so many trekking routes because, another trekking route goes
to Jongri-Gochela pass via Hanshpokhri, Laxmipokhri. If you are not trekker,
just want to spend few days with nature and silence then green valley of Uttarey
is perfect destination. This memorizing green valley with different birds and
flowers all ways welcomes you.

The main point or center of this village is Uttarey Bazar, now few cars are
going up to Laminipokhri, situated on 8200 ft. above sea level. You can enjoy great
view of so many peaks at a glance of Nathula Range, Singalila Range,
Kanchenjunga, Pandim and many more. Your next destination is Kagyud Monastery,
situated at top of Uttarey Bazar, enjoy a nice landscape of Uttarey from
Monastery yard, don’t forgot to take your Camera, photo taken from this
Monastery can be your profile picture or you wallpaper. Then take a short trip
to Manghim and trout breeding center, if you have enough strengths then trek
around 2 hrs. for Menbas (Manbas) Water Fall. This fall surrounded by dense
forest and a hidden gem under dense forest, there are chances of seeing Red
Pandas or Himalayan Black Beer.

Kagyu
Monastery is situated at an altitude of 7200fts and one
of the oldest monasteries in Sikkim. It was built in the year 1711 A.D. from
here you can enjoy the magnificent views of wide range of mountains, Lush green
forests and Tribal villages.
Trout
hatchery center is establishment by Govt. of Sikkim, can
enjoy the view of Trout center.
Alpine
Cheese Factory Dentam, it takes about 30 minutes from
Uttarey. In collaboration of Indo-Swiss company produces cheese, paneer and
milk products.
YUMA
SAM a holy temple of Limboo community. From this place you
can enjoy intensification view of tribal village of Sherpa, Lepcha and Limboo
and also beautiful mountains and forests.

Uttarey
Distance of Uttarey from New Jalpaiguri is 160 K.M, and
nearest Railway station is New Jalpaiguri (NJP), well connected to all major
cites of India via railway network.
Nearest
airport is Bagdogra (IXB) well connected with all major cities, daily flight available
to Bagdogra from Kolkata, Delhi, Guwahati, and Kathmandu.
Take
prepaid cab from NJP or Bagdogra to Uttarey directly, cost will be around
Rs.4500/ to rs.5500/ depends of season. Also you can reach Uttarey in tight
budget then come to Siliguri Jn. or Siliguri SNT bus stand and take bus to Northing
fare would be around Rs.150/ to Rs.200/ (check fare at bus depot). From Northing
take shared jeep to Uttarey fare may be around Rs.200/, remember getting shared
jeep in afternoon is difficult. Uttarey can be reach from Bermiok via Dentam
village, Alpine cheese factory and Singshore Bridge, distance 25 K.M. Singshore
is Asia’s 2nd height hanging bridge. Distance from Pelling to Uttarey
around 37 K.M.

Best time to visit
Uttarey is after winter or in spring time, if you want snowcapped Kanchenjunga
with deep blue sky then visit Uttarey in winter.
Few adventurous travelers are like to visit Uttarey in monsoon, for lush green
valley with different test and discounts, it is recommendation for other
traveler to avoid rainy season.
