Dzongu | A heaven village of North Sikkim

Dzongu (জঙ্গু) is a region bounded by Chu River and Teesta River in North Sikkim, India and this village is official reserved for local Lepcha community. This village situated at the border of Kanchenjunga biosphere reserve in Sikkim. You can enjoy scenic beauty of this village along with Kanchenjunga ranges, different colored flowers and rhododendrons.

Lots of cinnamon (Darchini) fields can be visited on your foot; this enjoyable walk can be remembered for your lifetime, also go to Teesta River by crossing bamboo bridge at Passingdang, also fishing can be a good option on River Tista. Locals (Lepchas) are very noble and tourist friendly, their hospitality is great, their foods, and cultures are also interesting.

You can experience of making different homemade medicines by using different small plants and vegetables. All of the major mobile networks are available in Jong, but there is no ATM, only available at Gangtok. If you are visiting Dzongu in winter, carry enough warm cloths. You need permit to visit Dzongu, this permit is issued from DM office Mangan. Also permit can be arranged by any registered travel agent or Homestay owners.

Accommodation in Dzongu

Homestay is only accommodation option in Dzongu, few locals are started homestay, they are all good in condition, and arrangements are basic but great in hospitality. Ask your homestay owner for permit, prior to booking, Dzongu is divided into two parts Upper Dzongu & Lower Dzongu, also ask their exact location at time of booking.
         
Our associate homestay located in Lingthem, Upper Dzongu, North Sikkim. Currently we are providing total 4 numbers of rooms, two of them with attached western bath and another two wooden rooms without attached bath. Spectacular view of Mt. Kanchanjangha is visible from each and every room’s window. You can enjoy superb view with a cup of hot tea in your room. All rooms are spacious, clean and hygienic for you and your loving family members. All rooms are constructed in a manner of eco-tourism and nature friendly.
         
Also we provide all major meals with lodging, our food package starts from bed-tea to dinner (including breakfast, lunch, 1 veg meal & 1 non-veg meal). All provided foods are made by organic vegetables from own farm.

How to Reach Dzongu

Dzongu can be reached from Gangtok by car, distance 70 K.M, it will take around 4hrs. But best option would be from Mangan or Mangon. Also you can avail shared jeep to Dzongu from Mangan (after 2 P.M onward).

Nearest railway station is NJP (New Jalpaiguri), distance around 135 kms, well connected with all major cities of the country. Nearest airport is Bagdogra-IXB.

In case of shared transportation/jeep, Dzongu can be reached through following routes:

  1. a)    Take jeep to Singtam from Siliguri jeep stand, it will take around 3 hrs. and cost would be around Rs.250. Then take another jeep from Singtam to Mangan, it will take around 2 hrs time and cost would be around Rs.90 – Rs.120. Call your homestay owner from Singtam and he/she will guide you about next.
  2. b)    Take shared jeep from Gangtok (Vajra Taxi Stand) to Mangan and then call the homestay owner.

Best Season to Visit Dzongu

Most travelers are prefer Spring time (March to May) and autumn (October to December) to visit Dzongu. Also Dzongu can be visited throughout the year, carry extra woolen clothes, gloves and monkey caps at winter.
